Welcome to Torino

Welcome to Turin, a city of timeless elegance, rich history, and vibrant culture, located in the northwest of Italy at the foot of the Alps. Turin offers visitors a unique blend of royal heritage, world-class museums, beautiful architecture, and an exceptional food and wine tradition. It is also the birthplace of some of the greatest symbols of Made in Italy known around the world, including vermouth, gianduiotti, grissini, and espresso coffee.

Turin’s story stretches back over 2,000 years, but its golden age began in the 16th century when it became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy. Under the rule of the House of Savoy, the city was transformed into an elegant royal capital filled with grand palaces, wide boulevards, and magnificent squares.

In 1861, Turin became the very first capital of unified Italy, marking its place at the heart of the nation’s history. Today, this royal legacy lives on in its architecture, museums, and refined atmosphere. Torino and Piedmonte boast the amazing circuit of the “Crown of Delights”, constituted by the 15 Savoy residences declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. The most famous is the Royal Palace of Venaria, built in the 17th century and defined the Piedmontese “Versailles” because of its splendid architecture and beautiful park.

One of Turin’s most iconic landmarks is the Mole Antonelliana, an extraordinary 19th-century tower that dominates the skyline. Originally designed as a synagogue, it now houses the National Cinema Museum and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the surrounding Alps.

Another must-visit is the Museo Egizio, one of the most important Egyptian museums in the world, second only to Cairo. Its fascinating collection attracts visitors from across the globe.

For one of the most spectacular views of Turin, visit the Basilica di Superga, located on a hill overlooking the city. From here, you can admire the rooftops, the river, and the mountains all in one unforgettable panorama.

The city is internationally recognised for its rich and dynamic calendar of cultural events, including the Salone Internazionale del Libro, the Torino Jazz Festival, the MITO SettembreMusica, the Torino Film Festival, and the opera season at the Teatro Regio di Torino, together with a lively programme of contemporary art exhibitions and cultural productions. In addition, Turin hosts the ATP Finals, one of the most prestigious events in the international tennis calendar.
